My Story (Alternative Title: Headaches Suck)

Often times I am asked: "Why Chiropractic?" "Why did you choose to be a Chiropractor?"
There are many reasons people become Chiropractors. For me, it's because Chiropractic changed my life.

Here's the story:

I became involved with Acting/Singing/Theatre in 6th grade when I was on the stage crew for a production of "Annie" that my sister was in. I fell in love with the stage. As I went in to 7th grade, I became involved with the performance side of the show and enjoyed all of the benefits and privileges a guy in middle school theatre can have (Lots of girls, little to no competition for roles). Everything was going great for me.  I wasn't the best, I wasn't the worst, but I was having a TON of fun.

In 9th grade, I was cast as the lead role of "Ugly" in my school's production of "Honk! Jr." (no, it wasn't a type-cast). Right around auditions I started getting headaches. Really, really bad headaches. I managed to deal with it for a while, but they kept getting worse. Not only was my school work being affected, but I was struggling to get through rehearsals after school. The sound of my own voice hurt my head, and the sound of the 60 other kids on stage DEFINITELY hurt my head. I would be in tears by the end of rehearsal almost every single day. And let me tell you; being a short (yes, I was short once), overweight, theatre kid that is ALSO crying all the time, is not the best thing to build your self-esteem in middle school.

The only thing that would prevent or stop the headaches was taking 2 Extra Strength Excedrin Migraine before school and sometimes after school as well. Even little 9th grade me knew that wasn't good for my body. I needed a better solution that wouldn't completely destroy my kidneys.

That's when my mom decided to take me to the Chiropractor she had been seeing for her low back pain. I had no idea what Chiropractic was or how it was supposed to help, but you do what your mom says, right? Right. And boy was she right.

I'm not exaggerating that I say that within 2 weeks, my headaches were 90% better! I wasn't getting them daily. When I did, they weren't as severe. And I no longer reached for a bottle of pills with my breakfast. What was this voodoo?

My grades improved, my sleep improved, my energy improved. Rehearsals were something I could look forward to again. I was back to having FUN.

I had my life back.

I started doing school projects about Chiropractic. I told everyone I knew about Chiropractic. I probably should have been paid to be someone's marketing manager. I was so excited! I KNEW that I was going to be a Chiropractor and help change lives.

So when it came time to start applying for college, what did I do? I decided I was going to be an engineer. I know, right? I decided the 8 years of college and hundreds of thousands of dollars of debt were not for me, and I just wanted to join the work force. So I went to Penn State to study Materials Science and Engineering.

Halfway through my engineering program, something inside of me called me back to Chiropractic, and I didn't ask questions this time. I finished my engineering degree and moved to Texas to pursue my career in Chiropractic.

And that brings me to today. I'm now dedicating my life to helping people create, write, and live their own life.

I wanted to share my story so that you know, that I know what it's like. I know what it's like to have something in my life that I had seemingly no control over. I know what it's like to have something that makes life harder, even though it shouldn't be.

But I also know what it's like to recover. What it's like to thrive. And that is what I want YOU to experience.
